When roommates Grady and Mateo give in to their growing lust, it's the best sexual experience of their lives. But are they really gay? Is this just sex? Or is it something more? It takes time for confused Grady to figure that out, but once he does he wants all of Mateo. Too bad tracking down brokenhearted Mateo proves impossible.
Grady's last resort is to post an online ad encouraging his friend out of hiding and back into his life. He's sure that once he gets Mateo between the sheets he can convince him what they had together was no college experiment. But Mateo's been hiding from something—or someone—and he has no intention of returning home.
Grady is determined to tear down all Mateo's walls so he can find out what happened to him and help heal his wounds. In the process, he'll show his best friend that he won't run. Not this time. He swears.
Length 36,244 words.

This could have been such a sweet, romantic story. There were just too many things that went wrong or didn't work for me. Possible minor spoilers ahead. The MCs are Grady and Mateo. These two have been the best of friends since like primary school. They are in their senior year of college and have been roommates all four years. The book opens with them taking a break in one of the cabins at Grady's family's lakeside resort. It could have been so cute. What a great setting for admitting feelings. But...the next thing we know, it's 6 years later and Grady spots Mateo at a Pride parade. This is when we learn that the friends separated at the end of the senior year and have not seen each other nor spoken since. There is a a bit of a mystery as to why this happened and that kept me interested. However, there was a huge fly in the ointment here. Grady makes promises to Mateo, using the phrase 'I swear to you...' Come on. He doesn't even spend much time at all thinking about how his word must sound completely worthless to Mateo. Mateo had NO ONE. No family to speak of to the point where Grady's family WAS his family. With Grady making bad decisions, Mateo is out on the cold. (Even as I write this review, I get irritated all over again. If the character is going to cause such pain by making such dumb decisions, then he needs to be redeemed by the author in some way. Otherwise, the reader (me) can never quite get over what an idiot he was.)
For someone who was hiding from his ex, I thought Mateo and Grady made some careless mistakes
There were other minor problems, like inconsistencies. At one point, the guys look down at their jeans. And I was thinking, "Weren't they just naked, though?" There were a few things like that, but honestly if the story is good enough, I can easily overlook those sorts of errors.

as described
I love Sloan Parker's writing. Ever since i read Breathe i was hooked.
Grady and Mateo are/ were friends until Mateo made a move Grady. Initially Grady accepted it until he didn't. So he walked away from Mateo. Even though Mateo pleaded with him not to. He left and years went by and Greg got married twice but they never lasted because he knew deep down that he couldn't love those women. He couldn't love them because he was in love with Mateo. The thing is after his most recent divorce (his marriages never lasted long-- talking months) he starts to try and find Mateo. But Mateo can't be find. It's like he vanished. Until one day he sees Mateo at a gay pride parade from afar and they lock eyes. Grady hasn't been with a man. He went to the parade with the intention of solving that matter but when he saw Mateo he knew he only wanted one man. That man being Mateo. Mateo flees and runs away. Grady anxious to find him and apologize to him with the hope of picking up where the left off looks to the internet to find his man. He comes out on facebook and then posts an ad for Mateo. Mateo finally contacts him but it's evident that he's not the same person Grady knew back then. Mateo is angry and hurt and a little bit broken. The past is trying catch up to him and a person from his past refuses to let Mateo move on. Grady won't allow Mateo to walk away from his life because he's finally admitting what and who he wants and he won't give up without a fight. And it's going to be a fight. Him and Mateo have to survive in order to live. With each other. Because Mateo is in some serious trouble and he can't win this battle alone .
This was a pretty intense story about second chances. Loved the characters. Good storyline, lots of feelings, even a bit of suspense.
A history of love and redemption.
One of the best short stories that I have ever read in a long time. I could not put my IPad down. I wanted to know what happened to Mateo. The story is not pretty yet my heart goes out to Grady for realizing what a total jerk he was six years ago. My heart goes out to Mateo for not giving in on his first love and keeping the dream alive. We all make mistakes, yet few learn from their mistakes, not Grady. A wonderful story of redemption, scary at times, but worth reading. Definitely a five star in my book.
I really enjoyed Grady and Mateo's story. I think Grady made some mistakes early on in this story, but I could see why he would be afraid. He was young and dumb, but finally needed to man up. His love for Mateo was sweet. Mateo is scared of what happened in his past and was hiding out. Grady searched and found him. Their chemistry was instant and the connection absolute. I enjoyed their journey to HEA. Great read.

This was a good story overall, but I was disappointed by the ending. It seemed very quick and a bit over-the-top for me. That said, I loved Mateo and I grieved for the disappointments and pain he suffered. Grady made me quite angry. He seemed selfish and impulsive, and his pursuit of Mateo, once he decided he wanted him, felt a little stalkerish. Still, if Mateo could understand and forgive him, I guess I can too. This is an intense, emotional story, with secrets, mystery, and suspense. The sex scenes are very hot, and I was glad to see Mateo finally get the love he deserved.
Grady and Mateo were best friends growing up, Grady was his only friend.
They were very close and after some experimenting, the went their separate ways. 6 years later after 2 failed marriages Grady decides he is ready to come out and be what he should have been to Mateo earlier.
Mateo does not want to be found his life has some deep dark secret in it. But they run into each other. Can they salvage their friendship, can it be what they truly wanted, can they find their happily ever after?
Good read, I love second chance stories.
